~Sunday Sewing~

Do you remember me babbling about wanting to make a slow quilt with my stack of Anna Maria Horner fabrics?
Well I didn't want to make just hexagons, I wanted something a little more fun so I went looking for inspiration on Flickr. Where I found this and I loved it! She said she got the pattern from, but I could not find it there. Still it wasn't that difficult to figure out the pattern myself. I made 2" hexagons, so that meant I needed 2" squares and 2" triangles to make this circle shape. It looks a bit like a variation on the double wedding ring pattern, don't you think?

AMH paperpieced circles

It was my friends birthday yesterday so I decided this was the perfect occasion to start cutting into some of my new fabrics! She just moved into her new house so I figured a nice new cushion would go well for a present.

Karen's Cushion

I am so pleased with how this turned out it  really looks like it belongs on her couch!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend

Fab Friday {double latte with whipped cream stash post}

First things first, I won Kaelin's give away from the plaid scottie fame and I couldn't be happier:-D If you have not had a chance to visit her blog I think you really should, she's making a wonderful Rain or Shine Quilt, super cute hexies for her bee, mouth watering pictures of her stash an much much more!
So what did I win, you ask? Meldoy Miller's Ruby Star Rising!!! Woop!!! {can you tell I am excited? lol}

Ruby Star Rising

I've also had some more fabrics from my fabric therapy shopping coming in this week. Some lovely Kokka linens I have had my eyes on for a while from Celtic Fusion

 I have spent every free minute glued to the couch, english paperpiecing and watching the Gilmore Girls on dvd! I feel a bit silly admitting to it, but there you have it, it's what I've done and I enjoyed it thoroughly :-) .

I was too lazy to take some progress shots even, but I will do soon - promise! It's coming along nicely and I think I have made the right decision in making a 'slow' quilt with my Anna Maria Horner fabrics. It will take me forever to finish!
Have any of you made a full sized handpieced quilt before? How long did it take you?

Not for those on a diet... {Stash}

This year is not treating me as kindly as I had hoped it would. I am not going to go into detail and tell you all about it my friends, but lets just say I am not doing so well. That is ok though really, it is life it comes with ups and downs, Ce sera sera and all that good stuff! So I decided to blog when I feel like it and not if I don't {makes sense doesn't it lol}
Anyway at least the downs give me a good excuse to do some retail therapy ;-) For all of you on the fabric diet please look away now!

First off some of the lovely Anna Maria Horner Little Folks voiles. I'm thinking about making a quilt for my bed out of AMH fabrics, especially after seeing this. I don't think I will go for the same pattern but these fabrics just look so warm and inviting don't you think?  I am still torn on what pattern to choose for this, I'd love to make just a simple square patchwork and let all these lovely fabrics speak for themselves. But I am also really in the mood for a 'slow quilt' you know one that will take me forever to finish like english paperpieced hexagons or diamonds or something...Indecisive, for now I'll remain stroking these lovely soft voiles and probably buy a couple more just in case!

I also got these assorted Fat Quarters of different designers, not necessarily to go together like this although they do look good!

As for sewing, I am busy working on a project that I am not sure I can blog about, it is something completely out of the ordinary for me, using a lot of different types of materials together. Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it will all come together in the end! {how was that for being cryptic!}

I'll be back soonish!

Some sewing and a Liebster Award

I've been busy stalking my partner in the DQS10 trying to figure out who she is and what she would like. I have a little idea and I'm hoping it will grow into a more finalized idea as to what to make for her.

FMB2 January Blocks

Meanwhile I've also finsihed my Fresh Modern Bee 2 blocks for this month. It was Krista's month {lolablueocean}She asked for circles and sent us all lovely linen and scraps from her stash. I got red, wich I love, and made these two blocks.
I started off wanting to piece a rather small circle, wich turned out to be quite a disaster. So after my failed attempt at that I went for raw edge applique instead. nice and safe! I will have to revisit Kerry's wonderful tutorial on how to piece circles soon to give it another go {you know after my bruised ego has healed and all that!}

FMB2 January Blocks

Speaking of Kerry, she nominated me for the Liebster Award - sweet!!  It's an award for little blogs with 300 or less followers. The idea is in order to accept the award you need to spread the love and award three other blogs in turn
I'm of course more than willing to spread the bloggy love! I've picked three blogs from very talented ladies that are more recent discoveries of mine.

Brooke from April Two Eighty who takes the most beautiful photographs and we are all  trying to copy here style! {or at least I am} She has a stash that makes me green with envy and she puts it to good use too, making beautiful and contemporary quilty goodness.

Jolene from Blue Elephant Stitches she's been keeping us up to date on her works in progress, with lovely pictures of beautiful fabrics and quilts to be! I love reading about her process and what she's discovering about herself.

Sarah from Pings and Needles Not only does Sarah have a great fabric collection, she is an active swapper over on Flickr {that's how we 'met'} and she has a great sense of humour! You're garanteed a chuckle or two reading her blog :-)

It wasn't easy to pick three blogs I can tell you! There are so many wonderful people I've got to know in this short period of time spent in blogtopia. Truthfully you all deserve an award {if we keep passing it on you might all end up getting one anyway he he!}

Be sure to check out Kerry's blog first, she's got some really helpful tutorials, and beautiful fabrics and quilty projects to share with you all :-)

Dear Partner...

Hey partner!

I hope you're enjoying stalking me :D. I also hope you can find some inspiration in my Gallery  and Mosaic.

DQS10 Progress
another beautiful DQS10 button made by Amy

If you are anything like me you may feel a little daunted by the task of trying to figure out my likes and dislikes. Now I could make a long list of all the things I do and don't like {yes this did cross my mind he he} but that may very well be the most boring thing you'd ever read! Also  I don't want to constrict your creativity in any way.
I'd like you to have fun with this and be creative, fabrics, design and all that are not as important. I'd love for you to follow through on the idea that gave you that little rush of excitement, and not abandon it because you've read me saying I don't like orange somewhere! It truly doesn't matter so much what I like or not, it matters that you are willing to put in your time and effort to make me something, that matters A LOT! Thank you!

yeah bebe!

Click here to go to the groups website

I'm an official bebe in this round of the Doll Quilt Swap {DQS10} over on Flickr!
Soooo excited and a little scared too, the talent in this group is a bit intimidating I must admit. I've also rated myself as intermediate level, and I'm starting to doubt that decision now *nervous little laughter.
But I will look at  this as a great opportunity to challenge my creativity and meet some wonderful people along the way.
No partners are assigned yet, this is a BIG swap so it takes the mama's a while to get everyone sorted {wouldn't it be fun if they had a quilted version of the Sorting Hat!} But future partner I will post something especially for you soon!

Are you playing too?

I know ~ I know, the holidays are over, everyone is back to work/school busy, busy. But I just can't seem to drag my lazy bum out there and actually get something done these days!
Must be the lack of sunlight, I feel like I'm in deep hibernation and I won't get up untill it's spring again.
Nothing like some purdy fabrics to cheer me up though :-)

Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner
My lovely stack of Innocent Crush, christmas present from Mr. M. Not exactly sure what I'll make with them yet. It's going to be a quilt for me, queenish size, big chunks of fabric, something simple with big blocks ,squares and rectangles....or I might change my mind completely! I really want to start cutting, but I don't want to change my mind half way {does that only happen to me?!} because I started to soon!
So while I'm pondering my design I'll listen to this...

Mumford & Sons posing on top of lush fabrics
dreaming of all the chocolate and fudge I ate over christmas {I'm still stuffed!} and the good times I had with some of my dearest people. Where I helped my best friends 10 year old daughter with her very first sewing project; a pillow for her grandmother ~ sweet!!

First sewing project
How are you coping with winter?
