I freaked a little when they told me yesterday they were confident to have my internet restored in 5 working days...I mean five whole days without internet who could handle that?! ;-) But 27 hours later I'm back up and running.
I need your opinions on this bee block I'm working on for Annabel in the cocorico bee
I was inspired by Meg's Bee block and though it could do with a moth friend. After excitedly piecing the wing part I realized there was no way I could piece that scalloped edge. The only solution I could come up with was to applique the whole moth onto the background fabric. Now after all this needle turn applique I'm not so sure if I like it at all!

It obviously still needs antenna, and perhaps I'm just quick to judge and the antenna will make all the difference.
My little monster saw this and asked what it was. When I told him 'it is supposed to be a butterfly dear' he said 'well that didn't quite work out then mum did it!'
So what do you think, carry on or reject pile? And if carry on is your answer any suggestions on how I should do the antenna?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

cool stylish blog
ReplyDeletecome visit sometime, id love to hear what you think of my artwork
cheers
Absolutely love it - I'd just embroider the antennae on in black thread.
ReplyDeleteditto what Lynne said!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? It's fanfreakingtastic! Go with it!!
ReplyDeleteYou know already that I love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to suggest something that will be a real pain in the ass for the antennae-- I think you should do teeny bias strips and applique them on. I think it will balance out the body better.
I love it and I think the antennaes will make all the difference, just go for it!
ReplyDeleteMoth is wonderful - just a black antennae and it will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love it! That really made me laugh so much, kids have no tact do they! Got to love that honesty. Antennae will make the difference but it's still beautiful
ReplyDeleteI love your block - altho not all that fond of moths.....I think the antennae need to look simple and clean lined so probably the embroidery idea might be the best option?
ReplyDeleteYour little boy is so funny! I really really like your butterfly!
ReplyDelete(It looks so different than mine:

It's fabulous! Black curly flourished antennae would look great!
ReplyDeleteLove it, and it totally does look like a butterfly :-) I'd just embroider the antennae same as Lynne
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a moth or butterfly to me, and a super cool one at that. I would definitely carry on. You could free motion stitch the antennae right onto the block.
ReplyDeleteI like it! I think the antennae will make the difference. If not, perhaps adding two button eyes to it also? For a little different texture? Just a thought. Do love it, though.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's beautiful! I like both ideas for the antennae - embroidery or skinny bias tape. It does seem they might need some heft to them to balance the body. This block is gorgeous! The fabrics are lovely and the scalloped edge is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think it is gorgeous and I knew what is was upon sight.
ReplyDeleteIt has worked wonderfully well and in this case I'm afraid your son is wrong! Black or even better dark grey embroidery by hand or machine would be marvellous!
ReplyDeletei love your moth. it looks like a dresden AND a moth. it is so great.
