I turned 33 yesterday, but I have not been feeling well lately. So I spent the day on the sofa with the curtains drawn, wrapped up in a quilt watching crappy telly and napping a lot. Do I know how to party hard or what? ;)
Today I am feeling a bit better, the fever is gone and I feel like eating again so I think it is time for some cake, presents and the give away I promised!
Up for grabs are four coordinating fat quarters handpicked by yours truly. From top to bottom they are Pinelope pincushions and scissors, a sketchy dot in red (by Holly Holderman? not sure), and two herringbone stripe prints in red and green from Sweetwater's Reunion.
I personally love it when I find a combination of greens and reds that doesn't remind me of Christmas in the slightest and I hope you will too :)
You will also receive a little house lavender bag I made with Kerry's tutorial and one scrappy leaf coaster.
To enter: leave me one comment on this post, I'd love to hear your birthday party stories the good the bad the ugly I want to know it all!
I will keep the comments open until midnight Sunday. Anyone, anywhere can enter just make sure there is a way for me to contact you if you win.
Good luck!
x Leila
Wish I was still 33 ;-)
ReplyDeleteBirthday stories... I spent part of my 21st with my head down the loo which has kind of put me off alcohol and I've never ever got to that stage since...and my 21st was a wee while ago ;-)
Too many birthdays have come and gone...but always love spending time with my family!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better today! Love that little pincushion print-so sweet.
Happy belated birthday! My best birthday was when I turned 22 and my husband threw me a Little Mermaid themed surprise party. I almost cried lol
ReplyDeletehappy birthday - hope you are feeling better today! on of my favorite celebrations was in high school when a group of us went to the art house movie theater in town and saw the Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense movie!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday was my first birthday after my husband and I got married. We didn't have much but he tried to make it as special as he could. And spending the day with him was enough to make it amazing!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI just had a landmark birthday and a broken arm :(
I'm so glad you are now better, I am too.
Happy belated birthday, Leila. So sorry to hear you were not feeling well on your birthday. I was watching a TV show about Dutch TV shows in Japan and thought you have so many fun TV shows there! (Game show was my favorite!)
ReplyDeleteMy 20th birthday party was fun! My friends threw a surprise party for me and we just chatted about random stuff until 7am. We did stupid stuff like dressing up and going to a convenience store just to make staff laugh, etc! It was hilarious!
Happy birthday an get well soon!
ReplyDeleteI also turn 33 soon, so maybe your give away is an early birthday present?
How does it feel 33? It seems to me that's the first real 30 something...
Greetings Els04 (you can find me on Flickr!)
For my birthday inFeb I had a karaoke party at my house. It was great fun but not sure th neighbours appreciated it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, and I am glad you are starting to feel better! I like to chill at home on my birthday, and I never really go out. My partner's the opposite, and for his 40th we threw a party at our home (we live way out the country), with live bands and music and circus. We had about 250 people camping in the fields around us, it was absolutely crazy!!! It took us a couple of days to get rid of everyone!
ReplyDeleteOh Leila! Happy birthday for yesterday. I do hope you feel much better really soon.
ReplyDeleteI also turn 33 this year, but I've told my kids that I am sticking at 29, so really I'll be 29 (again) this year :-)
Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteI think that my worst birthday party was when I turned fourteen, I was ill and slept through the entire party (and there was a real party going on with the entire family + friends).
So sorry to hear that you weren't feeling your best! If it helps, I pretty much never do anything to celebrate my birthday, so I'm not quite sure if I have any stories fitting this giveaway...In grade six, I did receive duplicate copies of Ace of Base's The Sign album from two different people. Um, that was disappointing -- I don't even like dance music! But hey, you learn with age, right?
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday and hope you're enjoying that cake!
Happy Birthday Leila! Hope you're feeling all better soon. One of my very favorite birthdays was when I turned 40 and we had a big party with friends and family and loads of good food. It didn't hurt that my hubby gave me a diamond necklace, either! But the best part was definitely celebrating with the people I love.
ReplyDeleteFor my 30th birthday, I told me husband he better be doing something special for me. When I got his standard reply of "sure", I did what any sane girl would do. I called his mom. And told her that her son better be doing something special for my 30th. I ended up with a surprise party and he brought my parents up from Louisiana (to Ohio) to surprise me. :) He did good. LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I don't have a story about one of my own birthdays, but my favourite story as a child was one of the "My Naughty Little Sister" stories by Shirley Hughes. In this particular one, My Naughty Little Sister is invited to Bad Harrys Birthday Party, where bored of playing party games they sneak off to the kitchen and devour a whole trifle. Bad Harry is then send to bed feeling very poorly and has to miss his own party. My kids also love this story!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. I did spent a birthday with a bad flu, 'dying' on the bathroom floor, unable to get up with my 3 girls running wild for the day. They would stand over me demanding snacks and all kinds of things. Umm, mommy is dying right now. Come back later. We all survived
ReplyDeleteHappy unbirthday! I don't think i really have any interesting birthday stories... oh, except I remember one, I think I was 10 or somewhere around there. I laughed so hard at my party I peed my pants. And not just a little, a full on get out the mop pee. Fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift to give away on your birthday - how generous! Glad you are feeling better - hope you can party it up now - eat some cake for me too!
ReplyDeleteI don't ever have birthday parties - I feel bad for making my friends pay attention to me by throwing a party and I feel even worse if they think I need a present because I mention it is my birthday so I keep it to myself generally. I never have a problem celebrating other people's birthdays tho and don't think they are just trying to get attention... hrmm.
I want to have a party on my 30th birthday tho - 2013... it is coming up fast! Any suggestions?
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteIam a summer child, so i spent my Birthdays in differend places. This year we where in Florance, and i had my most expensief ice cream ever!!

happy birthday! my best and most exhausting birthday was probably my 21st. i had a week long celebration as the last person among my roommates to turn 21.
ReplyDeleteHappy Unbirthday - Best birthday party story I can come up with is: In my last year at Primary school all the girls in my class threw me a surprise birthday party one lunch hour at school. Our teacher gave them permission to use a room so it was all set up for a party. One girl got her Mum to make a cake. I had no idea - even when the teacher sent me down to the room on some pretence. I thought for a week before, everyone hated me because whenever I went in the cloakroom people would shut up talking and there was all this whispering in corners. Little did I know it was because they were plotting the surprise party.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're starting to feel better. I just love to hang out with my family on my birthday. We have a tradition of letting the birthday person pick what is for dinner. My daughters and I have started making special cakes for the birthday person. It started with my husband's trout shaped cake, the latest was a Tardis cake for my youngest daughter and a golf cake for my son.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday sweetie, I do hope you're feeling much much better soon. Sounds like you "party" the same way I do ;-) lol Cant really think of any Birthday stories, I'm not much of a party girl (no...really?!) Mum always made me fabulous cakes when i was growin up though - guitars, houses, tents, coffins.... (that was a Dracula themed birthday)
ReplyDeleteI am turning 33 this year too! My fave birthday was when I was a teenager. Too cool for any attention for my parents, but secretly hoping they do something special. I woke up to balloons and glasses full of candy that they had snuck into my room in the night! They always make me feel like a special little girl, even now when I am a grownup :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and so glad your feeling better! No fun being sick on your birthday!
ReplyDeleteI don't do birthdays, they can make you feel old.heh.eh.eh.e.he.e.e
Happy Birthday! Hope your feeling better by now!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a story to tell! not a great fan of my own birthday!!
What lovely gifts. I am sorry that your actual birthday was not wonderful. but I am glad that you are feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteMy own birthday is coming up the end of this week and I am looking forward just spending time with my hubby and my 2 wonderful children.
I am grateful for each birthday that I do have, at least I know that I am still here.
julie
I thought I was turning 32 this year. Turns out I'm going to be 33. I missed a whole year!. Sheesh. I canct keep track. I've decided to be 30 until I turn 35 etc. I'll just (try) to remember the fives.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for this lovely giveaway!
Birthday stories... uhm... I like this kind of celebrations, but I like to celebrate in my essential and simple ways. So... handmade cakes, some precious friends and time outdoor (my birthday is in april).
Some years ago I spent my Birthday in Paris and, another year, in London. My fiancè "gave" me this travels as a gift! *___*
Great time! :)
Bye from Italy

I'm sorry that you were still miserable for your birthday. I am turning 38 so birthdays are really losing their charm for me!! I enjoy celebrating my kids birthdays much more.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday has always been a bit awkward. My father was often away as it was the middle of the growing season and he need to assess his field trials. Later on when I had moved out my birthday was usually in the middle of the exams. Nowadays my daughters get more exited than me about my birthday but I am trying to ignore the fact that I am no longer early thirties.
ReplyDeleteAww bless you. It sucks to be poorly on your birthday. I spent my 27th bday recovering from major surgery and feeling really ill ending up rushing to A&E the day after due to complications! I made up for it the year after (28th) though :P Glad you're better and up to birthday cake! Happy belated birthday :)
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday!! Hope you're eating lots of cake now and glad you're feeling better :) I think it's really going around, we're all getting sick! I can't think of any birthday stories worth telling but my son turns 4 this weekend and we're hiring a bouncy castle so there might be some tales next week!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! 33 is a wonderful age - I am 20 years older than that and love my 50th and my surprise of a hot air balloon ride! it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. I hope you are feeling better soon. Ah, to be 33 again. I am in the process of planning my 60th birthday. I guess that deserves a party...
ReplyDeletehappy birthday wishes! my birthday story; i share my birthday with my dad. that's it. :) feel better soon. that flu bug has been a nasty one this year!
ReplyDeleteHappiest of birthdays!! Always a bummer to feel low on your birthday. Hope you feel up to celebrating soon!!
ReplyDeletehappy birthday wishes. hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeletei must say, i party just as "hard" you since i have my daughter. i remember her birthdays more fondly than my own (and my last one was only a good week ago!). whenever someone asks me these days what i want for my birthday, i just say "peace", meaning that all of us are happy and healthy and continue to love each other. everything else is just not as important as it used to be. :)
Sorry to hear you were sick. My oldest who is six is home wih a stomach bug today. She is the most wonderful daughter and I love having her company, so I'll be sad when she goes back to school tomorrow. When I turned 26 I just started saying I was 30. That way when I really turned 30 it wasn't such a huge deal (actually it still felt pretty bad, but probably not as bad as it could).
ReplyDeleteIt was my birthday today and my fab friends planned me a surprise party - they're the best kind! x
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be turning 33 in a little over a month. It's funny, because one would think that I'd want a party and all that jazz; but what I really want is the day off to be able to do what I want...yet that's never gonna happen because my work schedule is crazy.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to celebrate my birthday with a big party. Just a nice day with my husband and children will do just fine.
ReplyDeleteBut I do like presents! So I would like to take a chance in your give-away!
xxx Corien.
Happy birthday! I am glad that you are feeling better. Your little house is adorable!
ReplyDeleteWell Happy Birthday to you! Sorry you were sick for your Birthday! That is stinky:( It is very nice of you to have a give a way! I would love some new goodies:0 Take care, Jackie@pacitti.us
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I'm having one later this month and I'm not looking forward too much to this one. I'm getting way too old for my liking... Anyhow. To cheer you up, I'm doing a small fabric-related givaway over at my blog. So feel free to enter, who knows you might even win a belated birthday goft for yourself! Get well soon, Himiko
ReplyDeletewww.himikonosekkai.com
Happy birthday! Hope you'll feel much better soon.
ReplyDeleteI might have told this story already, but the birthday I remember most was my 18th. We celebrated together with my friend who was born on the same day and there was my sister and two cousins, too. We had a bonfire on a little clearing opposite my aunts house and we got (gasp) maybe half a litre of mulled wine (for the 5 of us). And every 10 minutes or so either mum or one of our two aunts would emerge from the bushes just to see how we were doing and whether the wine was not getting into our heads too much. That was somehow so hilarious we were literally rolling in the grass with laughter.
Happy Birthday!!! I hope you feel better, it's not fun to be ill on birthday! I love birthdays - or loved till last year - now I wouldn't like to get older anymore.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing those beautiful presents!
x Teje
happy birthday hope you are feeling better and can eat cake !!!thanks for the giveaway looks lovely .
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! When you've had as many birthdays as I've had, they all blur together a bit!
ReplyDeleteBelated happy birthday for yesterday. Now you're feeling a bit better, I'd just eat cake all day if I were you ;o) Thanks for sharing your pressies too :o)
ReplyDeleteAs for birthday tales, hmm, I only really remember the disappointing ones, so lets not go there!
We have the same birthday! I turned 23 yesterday! Happy birthday to us! I had a great day yesterday, my husband took the day off and we went shopping, got my nails done and went out to dinner!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you! I don't really celebrate them. Maybe that's why I have to do math to remember how old I am.
ReplyDeleteHappy bday! When I turned 40 I cancelled a party that was being thrown for me because I just couldn't stand the thought of being 40. Two year later, I am loving every single bday I have. Enjoy your 30s! And remember, every year is truly a gift so celebrate all that is you!

ReplyDeleteMy most amazing birthday was my 40th which we spent as a family in a small hotel beside Lake Ullswater, UK. The hotel owner, in conjunction with my husband, arranged for the local Lord's personal piper to serenade me on the bagpipes. I knew nothing about it and was called to the window in time to see our children, Chris and Caroline (carrying a basket of flowers) seem to appear out of the lake itself, walking either side of the piper, tall, handsome and dressed in his full kilt. A wonderful memory which I treasure as our son died in a car accident a few years later.
ReplyDeleteLinda on travjonuk@yahoo.com ( NOT Google email, thanks)
My birthday in February wasn't so hot either. Didn't do anything. My DH and I don't exchange gifts so there were no surprises and one of us was sick so didn't even go out for dinner.
ReplyDeleteThe best birthdays are those of my two little girls!! we always have so much fun planning an outdoor party (lucky they are both in the summer!) & making a cake form scratch!

ReplyDeleteOh! I hope you feel better soon! I'm not 100% either, but at least it's not my birthday...
ReplyDeleteI remember a great unplanned party when I turned 29. Only a few people were told to come by for a glass of wine, nothing special, and they seemed to have told other people and other people and more people... about 30 people came at the end and it was great!
thanks for sharing this giveaway!
Hope you feel tip top soon! I think I had a birthday just like that this year too, come to think of it. I've got a twin brother so I mostly remember tandem birthdays, but one that stand out since I was a grown up was a birthday my boyfriend (later husband) scraped up, giving me a blueberry muffin from the drugstore with a cup of coffee, a package of crackers, and a tiny jar of caviar he had saved. Not much substance, but all heart!
ReplyDelete♫ ♪ Best birthday wishes to you! ♪ ♫ When I was young, a man I worked with and I had the same birthday so each year he'd rent a stretch limo and I could invite my friends along for a night of Chicago Blues pub crawl--all drinks and fun free of charge! Quite a generous guy, and I have so many happy memories of my birthday nights in my 20's!
ReplyDeleteOoh lots of birthdays have been and gone - this past one I had lunch with hubby in London and then shopping in Anthropologie and Liberty's - not too bad as birthdays go...!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you!! I'm sorry to hear you were sick on your birthday. Hope you're feeling much better now :) One of my favourite birthday memories is still my 3rd birthday when my Mum made me one of those cakes with a little china doll on top and the cake for her skirt. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen! And I still have the doll :)
ReplyDeleteoh, goodness....I remember 33~
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely year ahead and are feeling much better soon! If it is any consolation, I assumed you were much older because you seem quite accomplished.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday :) I remember being home with chicken pox as a kid on my birthday...not fun :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!! It's a shame you weren't feeling good!!
ReplyDeleteFor my 21st my Mother took me to New York for a week twas amazing!!! So want to go back!
My 22nd went out to dinner with some friends. A magician came over and showed us a few tricks and I even got my very first balloon animal!! A cute little orange doggy...sadly he shrunk and eventually was no more. Twas a sad day in balloon animal land
Happy Birthday! I don't really have many birthday memories, good or bad. We have never really celebrated birthdays. They are pretty much just another day.
ReplyDeleteOh be gone crappy illness!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday though youngster! I think my 33rd was the last one I don't remember; 34th I was pregnant and been a sober mummy ever since! Best one - my 40th - night in London with hubby and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Take care xxx
My birthday was earlier this month and I spent it in a workshop with a bunch of people who didn't know it was my birthday. It was weird and nice at the same time. My phone kept going off though with all the texts and messages from my friends and family!
ReplyDeleteSorry your birthday was a little crappy, I retreat a little at birthdays, I find big occasions all a bit much. On my 40th, I invited family and friends to a local Italian for coffee and cake- now that was good, no booze any more just caffeine! Happy Birthday x
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and I hope cake will make you feel better! I don't even remember 33!! But I am sure it was fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a lovely giveaway.
Happy Birthday! I hope you are feeling better. My best bday was my last. I had wanted to go to High Tea and a nearby tea house for many years. My fiancé took me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe most recent birthday party I had was for my son's 4th. He had four friends and a dinosaur theme. I sewed darling fat and spikey stuffed dinosaur tails that wrapped around their waists like belts and closed with velcro. I also made dinosaur "eggs" out of flour and sand and water and they had a treasure hunt to find them in the woods and then "excavated" with hammers and brushes like palaeontologists to discover little dinosaurs inside. The cuteness of little boys with dino tails waddling through the woods and the joy and excitement of finding dinosaurs in their "eggs" will never leave me. It was the best birthday ever!
thanks for hosting the giveaway - the fabrics are lovely!
Happy Birthday!! My favorite birthday story is about my oldest son - now almost 20, but then only three. We had a Winnie the Pooh party and all of his little buddies came over to play, but... being the possessive preschooler that he was, he cried whenever anyone touched one of his toys - even the slide!! So, the birthday boy watched from inside as everyone played and had a great time! Boy, I really don't miss those days!!
ReplyDeleteBirthdays should always be special no matter what year... in fact, plan to celebrate in small ways for a week!! My birthday is on New Year's Day so there is always a celebration and I do love it! When I was in my 20's I'd always be looking for that second kiss after midnight because "It's my birthday too" (but only for the most handsome boys!)
ReplyDeleteI lasted less than an hour on my 21st. Spent the remainder of it passed out in the mini-van we all used to get to the bar. It was pretty embarrassing, but the first 1/2 hour was a blast. Last 1/2 hour before passing out I would rather not remember. Lets just say I'm glad it wasn't a bar I frequented. All of my other birthdays are not as memorable, but MUCH tamer. I prefer it that way even if they all sort of blend together. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteNo particular birthday party comes to mind for me, but I have come to accept that I am a "birthday princess" (as my partner frequently teases me) and it is important to me to get extra attention on my birthday
ReplyDeleteFor my 30th birthday my husband gave me a book off my amazon list. We both thought the book was a cookbook with science stuff with it. Like the science of why the bread raises type stuff. Well I opened the gift after dinner with my mother. I was very excited to receive this book and started thumbing through it. The first "recipe" I came to was for editable underwear. I was instantly emberest to be looking at that with my mother and son waiting to hear about want was in the book. Us adults laughed about it later. I won't be forgetting that birthday for a while. :)
ReplyDeletehappy birthday! i do it up for my little one (who's actually not so little anymore), but keep my own pretty low-key. the big 4-0 is on the horizon, though, so maybe i'll break free and go a little cuckoo... i'm enjoying the other comments as inspiration! thanks for the chance... really lovely goodies.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Hope you are feeling better and that you get to celebrate more. My worst birthdays were when I was married - over 20 years and he only remembered 4 times (if that many). Enjoy then all. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!! I hope you feel better quickly! When I turned 21, I was pregnant with my first child, so I couldn't celebrate the way all my friends and family typically did on their 21st birthdays. So..my hubby, friends, and family either bought or made candles for me that came in some type of drinking glass and at my party they kept handing me these candles throughout the night, the same way they would have fed me alcohol! It was pretty funny and I still have two of them (from ten years ago!) :)
ReplyDeleteWell, when I was a lot younger I tended bar for a living. One of my bosses (and a good friend) shared a birthday with me & we used to celebrate together. He owned an old schoolhouse that still had all of the utilities hooked up, as it happens our shared birthday is October 29. So it was on for a Halloween party at the schoolhouse. It was a huge old 2 story brick building and the whole thing got decorated. Needless to say, I don't really remember a LOT about that night, but I do know that I had a lot of fun ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better and up to celebrating your birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!:) This year I will also be 33.
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable birthday was six years ago when I was pregnant with first son. All my friends came with congratulations, and I was so huge that I could not even stand up from sofa and kiss them!
What a cute giveaway! Happy Birthday to you too :) My favorite birthday memory was on my 8th birthday. I had it at the local skating rick (in the 80's) and got to skate a "slow" song with the cutest boy at my school. So silly but a really good memory :)
ReplyDeleteMy best story was a major birthday, my husband had me picked up by a limousine, along with friends, and we had appetizers in the classroom of my favorite quilt shop and then we went out for Japanese food. It was really fun. Very happy un-birthday to you.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I love all birthdays with my friend and family. They are the best gift i can ever ask for :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteActually I never celebrate my birthday. But I do enjoy my daugthers birthdays
Seeing they're smiling faces while eating the birthday cake and opening the presents, wonderfull.
Greetings from Belgium,
Leila (nice to have the same name as somebody that makes such wonderfull things)
When I turned 40, my husband sent me and a friend away for a spa weekend. On the way home we stopped to go shopping and got soaking wet. No problem, right? Well, what I didn't know was that he'd also planned a surprise party for me when I got home. There I was-frizzy hair and smeared makeup-greeting a a room full of my friends and family! I was at first so embarrassed. Then I got over it and enjoyed the evening.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you. I'm glad you're feeling better
Aw - Happy Birthday, and hope you are feeling better soon!!!
ReplyDeleteA fun Birthday memory for me is actually my fiance's 40th last year...It was so much fun gathering old embarrasing photos of him and plastering them all over the house and on the front door...and then watching him drive up and see his reaction!
My best birthday celebration was a week long road trip with my friends. We went from Fl to Indiana for a friends wedding. We stopped in ATL, Chattanooga and Nashville. It was a blast filled with site-seeing stops, family, good food, sleeping on the floor and staying in a dumpy hotel. I love roadtrips!!

Happy Belated Birthday!!! I've only had two parties in my life, for my sixth and for my 40th. Not much of a hard partier here! And my family never did birthdays big.
ReplyDeleteSorry you felt like crap for your birthday. Bummer. This year my husband and I were so worn down that for my birthday we had "drive through" and then did our favourite date thing ... we went through the car wash. And that was it. It had been an exhausting week with more to come. Some years are just like that. And that's okay.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday! glad you are well enough now to eat cake, that is a marker of health for sure. they should include that on dr's office questionnaires! i love a good birthday, others more than mine!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! What beautiful pieces of work you are giving away! Birthday memories? Being little and having 'party dresses', the wearing of which meant getting to run round in circles with other little people, drink coke through a straw and eat sweet things in little paper cases!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you felt punky on your birthday. I never really had an actual party, not since I was a little kid though - it would be fun. Maybe someday :)
ReplyDelete30th - Golden Birthday - no party and all close friends got married the summer before and 2 moved away. 40th - my ex had just left the children and I. So when 50 came around last year, I was determined it would be better! I went on a mission trip to Cabo San Lucas, and had a family dinner where my brother gave me 50+ garnets in jewelry pieces he had bought on online auctions. MUCH BETTER! Lovely giveaway, thank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI am 33 as well (born in 1978 though.) Last year I hosted a Party Bridge Tournament for my birthday party and it was alot of fun!
ReplyDeleteSorry you weren't feeling well for your birthday. That's the way life goes and you don't need a birthday to have a party anyways!
Hope you are feeling better Leila - if you spent the day in bed with your beautiful AMH quilt then it would have been a great day anyway:)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I hope you feel better... Tomorrow I'll be 36! Agh! My countdown for 40! But I feel the same as when I was 20, hahaha :)I'll celebrate a home party with friends next Sunday. I love your giveaway items!
ReplyDeleteHappy Day of Your Birth!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of my birthday, so it's usually really low key. But last year I received tickets for Phantom of the Opera as a Broadway musical (in Los Angeles). It was pretty amazing.
We always have birth weeks in my family, partly because we are unorganised, and also because I am a Christmas baby, and my husband is an April fool baby, hard days to organise parties, I actually think that the best present anyone could give me would be a day to myself, which I would probably spend looking at blogs i love, including this one, and planning lots of projects that I then won't have time to make! Oh well, dreams are great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame you were still poorly on your birthday. We don't really celebrate birthdays, we do the card and gift giving and celebrate just with a nice family meal out somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon.
( wiggy-woo@hotmail.com)
Glad to hear you're feeling better. Nothing worse than feeling older/sick at the same time! Birthday story. Mine is the same every year and I love it. I stay out in the yard all day playing in my garden and don't cook, clean or even think about anyone else. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, and I hope you're feeling all better soon! I remember a memorable birthday when my MIL gave me a freshly killed chicken. Yes, it was memorable.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Glad you are feeling better -- on my 16th birthday I was sick with mono but had scheduled my drivers license test, which I was NOT going to miss! I ended up passing despite my mono AND a snowstorm - definitely a memorable birthday!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better...nothing worse than being ill on your birthday.
ReplyDeleteI can remember my 16th when my step mother make liver and onions for my birthday dinner... I wasn't impressed!
Lovely fabrics...please count me in :-)
Happy Birthday! Hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteMy worst birthday story - on my 17th birthday, my boyfriend broke up with me - in my yearbook!
The first surprise birthday some new friends at English class made to me, it was the best thing that happened to me that year!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you, Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday, and thanks for the giveaway. Hmmm, birthday stories. Well, DH had rotator cuff surgery on my birthday this year. And there was the year after my oldest daughter was born that DH forgot to get a sitter, so we finally ordered pizza about 10 pm. Or the 5 years in a row when I was a teen that someone was in the hospital. But despite all that, in 55 years there have been some fun ones too, like the year when I was first married that I was so homesick my husband flew me home to see my family, or the year I turned 50 and he took me to New York to see Phantom.
ReplyDeleteHope the rest of the year makes up for being sick on your birthday!
All the best.
The worst was when my husband threw me a suprise 30th birthday party. Little did I know his girlfriend he was cheating with was there as well as my whole family. He is now my ex!

Happy belated birthday! I've reached the age where birthdays aren't as much fun :)
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable birthday was my 50th, which I spent snorkling in the Caribbean! Happy Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great prize--thanks for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteI turn 33 in May...I'm glad because three is my favorite number so I have high hopes for that year. :)
I am sorry that you are sick for your birthday. I too was sick on mine and my friend insisted that we go out and eat anyway. It was the most horrible night ever. Proven fact, not all birthdays are not all that great. Next year maybe.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteI am having a very difficult time thinking of a birthday memory : )
So many have come and gone. I'm thinking my 50th will be very memorable and unfortunately not that far away.
Hugs
I had a lovely 50th birthday party planned for my husband and myself but Hurrican Wilma came to town!
ReplyDeletemy birthday's right before christmas so it gets lost...that being said, good food, bowling, and a handmade card are all birthday favorites of mine.

ReplyDeletehappy belated birthday!! what a pretty giveaway! i turn 30 this summer and have planned a trip to nashville with a few girlfriends to celebrate...hopefully it will go as planned!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to you! This past year was the first birthday I've truly enjoyed in many years. I've come to dream my birthday, not just because I'm turning a year older but also because I could never think of anything to do that day that would make me happy. So I had a lot of baaad birthdays since I'd end up doing something or going somewhere that I didn't really want to do/go to. Finally, last year I figured out what really, truly would make my birthday a happy one and I told my husband what I wanted to do. I baked a cake with my kids, invited my family over for pizza and spent the afternoon/evening hanging out with my loved ones. It was the absolute best birthday I've had in years. :) Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI´ve had the saddest birthday party ever this year - you said you want to hear sad and good stories .... I had to go to the funeral of my brother on my 44th birthday ... that was pretty hard.
ReplyDeleteI hope you´re feeling better today :)
Happy birthday! It's too bad that you haven't been feeling well :( For my 25th birthday, my boyfriend planned a surprise trip to the Lake District.. It was amazingly beautiful!
ReplyDeletethank you for the giveaway hope you feel better

Love the site. Happy Birthday - my last was spent hairless (chemo) and sick - this year (next month) I aim to really let my hair down (yes it has grown!)
ReplyDeleteI also am having a giveaway - pop over to mine - good luck. xx
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI tend to go crazy with cooking for birthday parties (both mine and my other half's) so I don't remember much afterwards :)

I turned 30 in January. I started the day by joining a gym. Then I went to lunch and a movie with my parents and granddad. And I went to sleep at 5:00 because the gym wore me out. I was a party animal!
