Fresh Sewing Day June

Our summer holidays started. I find it odd that I always really look forward to this six week break right up till the final days before we're off when I suddenly realize I will have to spend six long weeks home alone with my little monster - help!  He is inevitably going to wind up bored out of his mind driving me up the walls..but there is still plenty of time for all that ;)

hex pile

I have decided to join in with Katy's Hexy MF quilt along. I haven't been working on an actual quilt in a while and English paper piecing is the perfect portable summer sewing project so I have good hopes I may actually end up with a quilt in the end (if not a quilt a largish cushion would certainly be within reach)

hexies

I am thinking that if I do manage to make enough hexagons for a quilt I may do something different for the borders. Not sure exactly what yet but there is plenty of time until then.

So tell me what are you up to this summer, any fun holiday plans? Are you excited or dreading the long days at home with the offspring? (do tell me I am not alone in this!)

I am linking up with Lynne's Fresh Sewing Day, hop on over to Lily's Quilts and have a look what everyone else has been up to in June.

Fresh Sewing Day February

It is the first of the month and we all know what that means - it is fresh sewing day!
Here is what my February looked like:
  •  redecorating the sewing room - you will most likely not see me do that again any time soon!
  • lots of paper piecing - which I am bound to do more of this month ;)
  • my first pattern - yay!
  • dress making - something I really would like to get better at, I love my Tova!
  • the beginning of a sampler quilt, a long term project.

Fresh Sewing Day February

This week I have been happily pottering about with my scrappy leaf pattern. First I sewed some small leaves with the intention of making a lovely necklace like Charise did. But I changed my mind and made these two reverse applique coasters instead.
improv pieced, reverse applique leaf coasters
I love how they turned out!

Next I enlarged the pattern by 150% to see what a larger leaf would look like. It measures about 7" tall which fits perfectly in my hand :)

Leaf potholder
So I added a layer of cotton batting and insulbright for it to be used as a potholder or hotpad but I also think this size makes a nice coaster or snackmat.

Now hop on over to Lynne's to see what everyone else has been up to!

~ Buttercup Bag ~ Fresh Sewing Day #3

I had such good fun reading through all your answers from my previous post!  I think I'll do that more often just throw a couple of random questions in, it's such a nice way to get to know each other a bit better.

Buttercup Bag

Do you have a 'to sew list'? I do, I have all sorts of bookmarks for tutorials I want to try and things that I want to make.  One of the things I had on that to sew list of mine was the Buttercup Bag from Made by Rae  It's such a cute handbag and it uses only two fat quarters!

+&x blocks (Fresh Sewing Day)

Fresh Sewing Day @ Lily's Quilts

It's Fresh Sewing Day again, hosted by Lynne@ Lily's Quilts click on her button and head on over there to link up your own favorite sewing project of this month!

Mine has to be the +&x blocks I made, there's a quilt along for these over on Flickr if you'd like to join in the fun.
I've sewed some more of these babies last week and I'm loving them to bits!

+&x blocks progress

I don't think I'll end up keeping the blocks in this order but it's nice to visualize the finished quilt top with these collages.

The blocks are inspired by this quilt, made by Setsuko Inagawa that was displayed at the Tokyo Quilt Festival. We've since traced back this block to 1938  when it was attributed to Nancy Cabot, according to the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilts by Barbara Brackman.

My weekend was all about the royals between Kate and William's wedding {that dress!!} on friday and Queen's Day yesterday I have seen enough people with silly hats waving for a long while now ;-)

How is your weekend?

Fresh Sewing Day

Fresh Sewing Day @ Lily's Quilts

We all love Lynne aka Lily's Quilts don't we?! She is hosting a fun link up over on her blog, Fresh Sewing Day.

Last month was all about small sewing projects for me. I made coasters and a potholder, and now I can not bare to actually use them and get them dirty :S And this little egg rug that I love!

I really enjoyed making this egg rug tutorial. It just makes my day when I see other people frying them up! here and here

Today I'm enjoying some self indulgent sewing. The weatherman predicted summer for tomorrow so when I found this lovely soft voile at the market this morning I could not resist a new summer dress.

new dress

Now lets hope that sun will shine tomorrow and that I actually manage to finish this in time to wear it.

Off to browse through some new blogs now. Don't forget to link up for Fresh Sewing Day!
