Fresh Sewing Day February

It is the first of the month and we all know what that means - it is fresh sewing day!
Here is what my February looked like:
  •  redecorating the sewing room - you will most likely not see me do that again any time soon!
  • lots of paper piecing - which I am bound to do more of this month ;)
  • my first pattern - yay!
  • dress making - something I really would like to get better at, I love my Tova!
  • the beginning of a sampler quilt, a long term project.

Fresh Sewing Day February

This week I have been happily pottering about with my scrappy leaf pattern. First I sewed some small leaves with the intention of making a lovely necklace like Charise did. But I changed my mind and made these two reverse applique coasters instead.
improv pieced, reverse applique leaf coasters
I love how they turned out!

Next I enlarged the pattern by 150% to see what a larger leaf would look like. It measures about 7" tall which fits perfectly in my hand :)

Leaf potholder
So I added a layer of cotton batting and insulbright for it to be used as a potholder or hotpad but I also think this size makes a nice coaster or snackmat.

Now hop on over to Lynne's to see what everyone else has been up to!

Sewing my little heart out...

...to keep the shop full :-)

First off I so enjoy a good scrap busting project, my baskets are overflowing with little snippets I do not want to throw out. So I made this set of coasters. Aren't they fun?

Square Coaster Set

I even managed to use up an odd piece of lace and a flower applique that never found a home. I'm definitely doing more of these!

Then I felt the need to sew something a little more zen,  and made this sashiko tea towel.

Sashiko Tea Towel

You may remember I made a quite similar towel before and wasn't happy with the way the stitching showed up on the back. So I decided this time round I'd do the stitching on a separate piece of linen and stitch that to the towel so the backside is concealed. I'm quite pleased with this solution.

Ok, so I have been rather busy there's more!
You may have heard me rambling before about how I get words or sentences stuck in my head. I often hear people talk about how they think in images I believe I think in words...if that's at all possible I don't know!

Cushion {sit in a chair and be good now}

Today this is what kept repeating in my head 'sit in a chair and be good now'...need I say more?

Pfff best go take my own advice and sit down for a minute ;-)
All of the above is listed in the shop along with more "you wash I'll dry" tea towels I sewed up over the weekend.
