Fabric Love

~Hope Valley by Denyse Schmidt~

I've been stalking  Ray Stitch heading over to the site at odd hours just so I could stare at this lovely bundle and sigh.
Wanting it so badly that all sorts of crazy ideas popped into my head. A 100 ways to break the bank for fabric!

To end this madness I very subtly pointed at this stack of goodness so Mr. M would know what to get me for christmas.

Well christmas came early this year!!

Nothing says 'I love you' better than a fat quarter bundle in your mail box :-D

Have a good day!

Work in progress Wednesday #3

Thanks again to all of you who gave me advice in my previous post !

I corrected the strips I had cut already and sewed them all together. Starched and starched some more, it's not perfect and my flimsy will not do as it's told and lie flat. But I do think that once it's quilted these imperfections will not show {as much at least...I hope!}

I've appliqued all the black 'ravens' now {I'm not much of a birdwatcher so I can't be certain these qualify to be called ravens, but it is what I'm calling them!} I chose to go for  raw edge applique this time, instead of the needleturn applique I did with the pillows. Much easier and quicker!

Something I've been wanting to do for a while now is draw on fabric.  Bit scary at first but I finally did it! Using my fabric marker anything I can manage to draw I can put on any fabric I want, it's super cool!!

I even love that my drawing's aren't perfect, it's turning out pretty close to what I had in mind.

I'll be basting and quilting this one soon. Not exactly sure how I will quilt it and I still need to go get some wadding, but soon!

Rainbow Quilt

The finished quilt measures 54" x 54 " and consists of mostly nine patch blocks mixed with some smaller square blocks. The largest squares are 2" and the smallest 1".
I kept the quilting simple just straight lines on the diagonal wich leaves this quilt nice and soft and cuddly.

Spot the posh pinkie finger!

I love this quilt!

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Please help me out here!!

Thank you all for the great advice!
I'm going to fix the strips I've cut and I feel confident now I can make this work.
I'll keep you posted!

Remember these?

So I finally got my design in order and I happily started squaring up and cutting strips from my fabrics. Usually I cut strips from the lenghtwise grain/ warp, but since the pattern here runs over the crosswise grain/weft, and I wanted all the sofa's visible I cut from the cross wise grain.
I made a huge dent in my cutting only then to realise all the strips looked like they were off! Disaster! Had I cut them all wrong? So I checked, I ripped, I frayed and in the end I decided I needed the ultimate test, pulling threads out of my strips.

Please have a look at this.

Cutting these fabrics has sent me into a mini crisis, doubting all my sewing skills! Lucky mum came over, she is a professional seamstress , and her opinion was that the fabrics were printed slightly off and to cut along the pattern rather than the grain. What do you think?

Thanks for your help!
